KALIBA – A man was fatally stabbed in the head following an altercation over a woman at a shebeen situated around KaLiba.
The area is located in the outskirts of Hlatikulu in the southern part of Eswatini.
Police officers got a call from residents about a man who was found dead next to the road at about 7:30 pm on Wednesday. They arrived to find the man with a stab wound to the head.
The fatal stabbing came after the victim had an argument with a woman he found socialising with a man at a local drinking joint.
However, police said it was still unclear who stabbed the man.
Apparently, the victim assaulted the woman with a burning log he retrieved from a fire. This was after he found the woman keeping warm around the fire with the other man. The victim is believed to have been romantically involved with the woman. Witnesses said he was upset when he found her sitting next to the man he suspected she was cheating with.
“He picked up a burning log and beat up the woman. A group of residents who were enjoying traditional brew separate the two before it got nasty,” narrated the eyewitness.
However, the man was later found dead by the roadside.
It is unclear what led up to his death. A resident who was walking home at around 7pm made the macabre discovery.
Police were called there and then but ended up arriving in the following morning.
The victim’s corpse was taken to the Matsanjeni health centre morgue and the death was regarded as suspicious by the police who then launched an investigation. No arrests had been made at the time of going to press.
The incident was confirmed by Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati.
She encouraged anyone who may have been around the area on Wednesday night and heard some commotion or possibly saw what happened to come forward with information. Vilakati indicated that police were following leads and that investigators would leave no stone unturned to solve the suspected murder incident.
The incident came after an almost similar incident where a man was also found with gaping wounds on the head, after he was possibly hacked with a bush knife around the same area. That particular incident happened towards the end of last year.
